VIDEO POKER SLOT
Video Poker Slot is widely played throughout the gambling
casinos found in Nevada and New Jersey. Playing one of these
slot machines is easy. You should have a knowledge of poker
before playing.
The object of the game is to get a poker hand of Jack's or
better before you can win any money. You will be paid off
depending on your hand. The better the hand, the more money
you'll win.
Just like the real Poker Slot machine, you must first insert
some money. You'll be playing a dollar Poker Slot, so each coin
will be worth one dollar. You may insert any amount from $1 to
$5 into the Poker Slot machine. Once you've placed your coins
into the machine, you will be ready to deal a hand.
STARTING POKER SLOT
From your DOS prompt, type PSLOT and press the ENTER key. In
order for Poker Slot to run, you must be logged onto the
directory where PSLOT.EXE resides. Poker Slot must be able to
locate the files PSLIB01.INF, PSLIB02.INF, PSLIB03.INF,
PSLIB04.INF, and PSLIB05.INF.
The following are examples for starting Poker Slot:
Typing from your Explanation
DOS prompt
PSLOT Use mouse
PSLOT K Use keyboard
You may either play Poker Slot with a mouse or your keyboard.
When starting Poker Slot by typing PSLOT, you automatically
default to mouse usage. If Poker Slot has trouble detecting
your mouse or your mouse driver is not installed, you will be
dropped into the keyboard mode.
TANDY 1OOO
NOTE: If your computer is a Tandy 1OOO, the file "T1KVGA.COM"
may be required to be in memory before playing Video Poker Slot.
If you cannot play this game, install the "T1KVGA.COM" file in
memory first. From your DOS prompt, type T1KVGA and press the
ENTER key. You may then play Video Poker Slot as described
above.
The first screen you see will be the boot screen. This will
display the copyright notice and version number of Poker Slot.
A message will be displayed on the bottom of the screen asking
you to either press a mouse button or the ENTER key. When
- 2 -
you've done this, Poker Slot will load in the required graphics
screen it requires to continue to operate. This may take some
time if you are playing this from a floppy disk.
The next screen you see will be the Poker Slot layout. You will
be playing Poker Slot from this screen.
PLAYING POKER SLOT
The Poker Slot layout will resemble a Video Poker Slot machine.
Before playing, you must insert from $1 to $5 into the machine.
Once this is done, you must deal the cards by pressing the Deal
button. If you are using a mouse, you can either press the Deal
button or press the right mouse button to deal the cards. Once
the hand has been dealt, you select which of the five cards
you wish to hold. Press the Deal button again and the
cards not being held are discarded. They are then replaced
with new cards from the deck.
NOTE: Always be sure to press the Hold button on the cards you
wish to hold before pressing the Deal button again. If this is
not done, you could lose on a good hand that was dealt pat.
On the Poker Slot layout, you will see 14 yellow buttons. The
game is played by selecting one of these buttons.
USING A MOUSE
When using a mouse to play Poker Slot, move the mouse cursor to
the yellow button of your choice, and press either mouse button.
While in the mouse mode, you will not be able to use the
keyboard.
When using a mouse, most of your selections will be made by
pressing the left mouse button. Once coins have been inserted
into the Poker Slot machine, you may play the same amount of
coins by pressing the left mouse button with the cursor in the
card area or by selecting the coin buttons shown on your screen.
USING THE KEYBOARD
To press one of the buttons when using the keyboard, you will be
pressing on the key that represents the button you select. If a
button does not display a number or function key, you must
select that button by pressing the first letter that describes
the button you wish to push.
BUTTON DESCRIPTIONS
The following will explain the buttons and their function:
- 3 -
Hold Buttons
(Numbers 1 through 5)
The Hold buttons will only work once you deal the cards.
Selecting a Hold button will mark the card as being held. If
you change your mind, select the same button and the marker will
be turned off. If you are dealt a pat hand, you must press each
Hold button before dealing the next round of cards or press the
Pat Hand button that will appear between the Deal and Quit
buttons. Selecting a card will function as a Hold button.
Insert Coin Button
(I)
Before dealing a hand of poker, you must first insert from 1 to
5 coins into the machine. Pressing the Insert Coin button will
insert one coin each time the button is pressed. If you insert
the maximum allowable coins of 5, the cards will be dealt
automatically.
If you are using a mouse and have played at least one hand,
pressing the left mouse button within the card display area will
repeat your last wager.
Max. Coins Button
(M)
Pressing the Max. Coins button will insert the maximum amount of
coins into the machine. The cards will be then dealt
automatically. If you have already used the Insert Coin button,
you may still use the Max. Coins button. Doing this will
continue inserting coins until the maximum amount of coins are
placed into the machine. Four coin maximum on the ShareWare
version.
Deal Button
(F1)
Pressing the Deal button will deal the cards. Remember, coins
must first be inserted into the machine before you will be
allowed to use the Deal button. Once the cards are dealt,
select the cards you wish to hold (see Hold Buttons), then press
the Deal button again.
Pat Button
(P)
This button will only appear if you are dealt a pat hand.
Pressing this button will act like the Hold buttons, except it
will mark or un-mark all the cards at one time. You may wish to
use this instead of pressing all 5 hold buttons.
- 4 -
Quit Button
(F10)
When you press the Quit button, you will return to your DOS
prompt. You cannot quit playing until you have finished playing
the hand. IE: You've pressed the Deal button once and decide
to quit before holding any cards. You haven't completed that
hand. You must press the Deal button again.
Card Face Button (Registered Version Only)
(F2)
Selecting the Card Face button will allow you to switch back and
forth from a standard deck to a large face deck. This will take
a few seconds as the old deck is being replaced with the new
one.
Card Back Button (Registered Version Only)
(F7)
Selecting the Card Back button will allow you to change the card
back. Each time this button is selected, a different card back
will be shown. You will have a choice of 6 to choose from.
Continue on with the game when you are satisfied with your
selection.
Setup Button
(F3)
Selecting this option will allow you to change the current
settings of Poker Slot (See Setup Options).
Statistics Button (Registered Version Only)
(F5)
Selecting the Statistics button will allow you to view a
breakdown of various poker hands that have been made (See
Statistics).
Scores Button
(F8)
Selecting this option will allow you to view the top fifteen
high scores or the top fifteen low scores (See High Scores).
Progressive Button (Registered Version Only)
(F4)
Selecting this option will allow you to toggle between a
progressive slot and a standard non-progressive slot (See
Progressive Slots).
Credit Reset
(F9)
Selecting this option will allow you to reset the credits to
- 5 -
zero. You will be asked to verify this before the credits are
reset.
Credits
(F6)
Selecting this option will toggle the credits from your current
game credits to a running total of all your Video Poker Slot
games. Each time you start a game of Video Poker Slots, your
credits will reset to zero. When you quit playing, your
profit/loss is saved and added to whatever your previous
profit/loss was. If your credits show the letter "T" after the
amount of credits, this indicates you are viewing a running
total of your credits for all the games you've played. If the
"T" is omitted, you are viewing your current credits only.
PROGRESSIVE SLOTS
(F4)
The first time you play Video Poker Slot, you will be playing a
non-progressive machine. While playing a non-progressive
machine, the maximum amount of coins that will be paid out is
4OOO. If you selected this option, you will change the machine
to a progressive slot. The payoff chart on the machine will
indicate this by showing Jackpot in the highest payoff position.
The top of the machine will also light up showing the
progressive pot amount. If a non-progressive machine is being
played, the payoff chart will display 4OOO.
PROGRESSIVE POT
Each time the Insert Coin button is pressed, .1O cents will be
added to the Progressive Pot. This will be displayed at the top
of the Poker Slot machine. In order to win the Progressive Pot,
you must have the best possible poker hand with the maximum
coins inserted into the machine. If you happen to be one of the
lucky ones that gets a Royal Flush, your payoff will be $4000
plus the Progressive Pot if you have inserted 5 coins. Each
time the Progressive Pot is won, it will restart with a minimum
payoff of $1O,OOO.OO.
JACKPOTS
Jackpots will appear on the payoff chart depending on the type
of machine being played and/or if you have select Progressive as
mentioned earlier.
Jackpots will always be used in the Deuces and Joker Wild game.
The top Jackpot starts at $5,OOO.OO and pays off on a hand of 5
wild cards (4 deuces and the Joker). The next Jackpot starts at
$1,25O.OO and pays off on a natural Royal Flush (no wild cards).
The last Jackpot starts at $125.OO and pays off on 4 deuces.
Each coin inserted into the machine will add .1O cents to each
- 6 -
of the Jackpots. If one of the Jackpots is hit, only that one
will reset to the minimum payoff.
CREDITS
Each time you place a coin into the machine, your credits will
decrease by one. When you win with one of the 9 possible types
of poker hands, your credits will increase. Your credits will
be shown above the Deal and Quit buttons. Each time you start
Poker Slot from your DOS prompt, your current game credits will
be zero.
COUNTER
The counter will display the total amount of coins inserted into
the machine. The Registered Version will keep a running total
of the coins. The ShareWare version will always start at zero.
HANDS PLAYED
The total amount of hands played will be displayed below the
Counter. If you were to always insert one coin per hand, both
the Counter and Hands Played figures would be the same. The
Registered Version will keep a running total of the hands
played. The ShareWare version will always start at zero.

(B)
Your credits may be saved to disk if this option is set to ON.
If this option is set to ON, you will be asked for your name
when you have finished playing Poker Slot, assuming your score
qualifies for the top high 15 or top low 15 scores. Once you
have entered your name, you will not have to enter it again
when asked, just press the ENTER key.
Second Chance Poker
(C)
Selecting this option will allow you to change from the standard
Jack's or Better Poker to Second Chance Poker. This is played
the same as Jack's or Better. The difference is, you get a
second chance to improve your hand as long as you are drawing
one card to a pat hand. An example would be that you drew two
cards for a straight and missed but now have a one card draw to
the same straight. You will be asked if you want a second
chance. If you do, you may press the Deal button or press the
Quit button if you do not wish to have a second chance. NOTE:
When taking a Second Chance, a bet equal to your original bet
will be inserted into the machine. All payoffs for a Second

will only will 1/2 of the total Progressive pot. Second Chance
will allow the use of the Progressive pot.
Joker Wild Poker
(D)
Selecting this option will allow you to play Joker Wild Poker.
The Joker is wild and may be used as any card. The payoff rate
is different than the other forms of Video Poker. Joker Wild
Poker will all the use of the Progressive Pot.
Deuces Wild Poker
(E)
Selecting this option will allow you to change to Deuces Wild
Poker. All Deuces are wild and may be used as any card to
improve your hand. The payoff rate is different than the
other forms of Video Poker. Deuces Wild Poker will allow the
use of the Progressive Pot.
Deuces and Joker Wild Poker
(F)
Selecting this option will allow you to change to Deuces and
Joker Wild Poker. All Deuces and the Joker are wild and may
- 8 -
be used as any card to improve your hand. The payoff
rate is different than the other forms of Video Poker. While
playing Deuces and Joker Wild, you will have three Jackpots
available rather than the Progressive pot.
Double Down Poker
(G)
Selecting this option will change the game to Double Down Poker.
This is played identical to the standard Jack's or Better game.
Whenever you have a winning hand, you will be given the
opportuninty to double your winnings.
After the draw and assuming you are to paid on a winning hand,
you will be asked if you wish to Double Down. A "NO" response
will credit you with whatever amount you have coming for the
previously played hand. A "YES" response will reshuffle the
cards and deal out 5 cards face down. The first card will be
turned face up. This card is the computers card. You must now
select one of the four remaining cards and beat the computers
card in order for you to win. A card less than the
computers card counts as a loss and nothing is added to your
credits. If you beat the computers card, you double your
payoff. If a tie occurs, the process is repeated until a win or
loss occurs.
After winning a Double Down, you again will be asked if you wish
to Double Down. Play continues in this manner until you no
longer wish to double down, or your winning Double Down payoff
reaches the maximum of $1O,OOO.
If you do not have a winning hand or your winning hand is a
Royal Flush, the Double Down feature is ignored and play
continues. Double Down Poker will allow the use of the
Progressive Pot.
10's or Better
(H)
Selecting this option will change the game to a 10's or better
machine. The payoff rate is identical to the Jack's or better
games. 10's or Better will allow the use of the Progressive
Pot.
Bonus Poker
(I)
Selecting this option will allow you to play Bonus Poker. This
is identical to the Jack's or better machines except a bonus or
jackpot will be paid for hitting four of a kind. Three separate
jackpots are paid for four of a kind. One for four Ace's, one
for four 2's through 4's, the last for four 5's through K's.
Bonus Poker will allow the use of the Progressive Pot.
- 9 -
Lowball Poker
(J)
Selecting this option will change the machine to a Lowball Poker
machine. This is played the opposite of draw poker. The object
is to get the worst hand; IE: no pairs. Straights and flushes
do not count and therefore are ignored. The best possible hand
is a 5 4 3 2 A. Ace's always count as a 1 value. Lowball Poker
does not allow the use of the Progressive Pot.
Star Poker
(K)
Selecting this option will change the machine to a Star Poker
machine. This is played like the standard Jack's or better
games with the addition of Stars. Each time a new deal or hand
is dealt, the computer will randomly select 5 cards to be Star
cards. If you get a Royal Flush with all Star cards, you win
the 5 Star Royal Jackpot of $2OO,OOO. If you get a Royal Flush
with 4 Star cards, you receive a Royal Flush consolation bonus
of $2,OOO. If you make any other pay hand with 5 Stars, your
payoff is doubled. A non payoff hand with 5 Stars will receive
a 5 Star bonus of $2O. Star Poker does not allow the use of the
Progressive Pot option.
Stars (Registered Version Only)
(L)
Selecting this option will allow you to change the amount of
Star cards that will randomly be selected. Be default, the
amount of Star cards is 5. The maximum amount of Star cards is
2O. Although you may alter the amount of Star cards, this
should be left at the default setting of 5 for a more realistic
game. Setting this higher than 1O would make it too easy to
win.
Tournament Poker
(M)
Selecting this option will change the machine to Tournament
Poker. This is played like the standard Jack's or better.
When playing in the Tournament mode, you must enter the 5 coin
maximum. When selecting the Insert Coin button, all 5 coins
will be inserted into the machine. The object is not only to
win money in credits, but to win tournament points.
Tournament points are awarded for the following hands:
Royal Flush - 30 Points
Straight Flush - 15 Points
4 of a Kind - 8 Points
Full House - 4 Points
Straight or Flush - 2 Points
- 10 -
Hands less than a Straight or Flush are not awarded tournament
points. All hands are paid off at the Jack's or better rate.
You must play a total of 200 hands before you are given credit
for the tournament points you've acquired. If you have the Save
High Scores option on, your tournament points are saved and not
your credits.
The Video Poker Slot machine has a higher payoff setting in this
mode only.
NOTE: To play the Straight Video Poker game, be sure selections
C through K and M are all Off.
Quit
(Q)
Selecting this option will remove the Setup Menu from your
screen and return you to the Poker Slot game.
HIGH SCORES
(F8)
The Registered version of Poker Slot will allow the user to save
the high and low scores to disk. By selecting "Scores" from
your Poker Slot layout , you will be able to view the top
fifteen players and their scores.
The first column of the top scores will display two letters that
describe the game you were last playing when the score was
recorded. The following is a list of the letters that describe
the game:

SC - Second Chance Poker
2J - Deuces and Joker Wild Poker
Js - Jacks or Better Poker
BO - Bonus Poker
Ts - Tens or Better
LO - Lowball Poker
** - Star Poker
TP - Tournament Poker
The top portion of the High Score screen will display two
additional buttons or options. On the right side you will see a
button marked "Clear Score". Selecting this button will clear
the high scores only and allow you to start over.
The top left portion of the screen will display the button "See
Low". Selecting this button will allow you to view the top 15
lowest scores. Selecting the Clear Score button will clear the
top lowest 15 scores.
- 11 -
To leave the high score screen, press either mouse button if you
are using a mouse. Press the ENTER key if you are using the
keyboard. To select one of the buttons move the mouse cursor to
the button of your choice and press either mouse button. Using
a keyboard, press the letter H to change to high scores. Press
the letter L to change to low scores. Press the letter C to
clear the scores.
STATISTICS (Registered Version Only)
(F5)
Selecting the Statistics button will show a tally of the types
of poker hands you have made. Each time you make a poker hand
that is payable, the corresponding hand will increase by one.
The Registered Version will keep a running count of these hits.
You can reset the Statistics to zero by selecting the Reset
button in the center of the Statistics window. This will also
reset the Counter and Hands Played on your main playing screen.
Selecting the Reset button again and before leaving the
Statistics window will restore everything to its original
values.
TOURNAMENT POKER $100 BONUS PRIZE
(Registered Version Only)
United Innovations Plus will be giving away a bonus check for
$100.00 for the best Tournament Poker score. This will be done
on January 1 and July 1 of each year. To enter your Tournament
Poker score and to become a possible $100.00 winner, do the
following:
1. After you've completed the Tournament and you have a score
greater than zero, you'll be asked for your name. Enter the
name you used when you Registered Video Poker Slot. There will
be a file written to your disk called "PTOURN.UIP". The Save
High Score feature in the Setup Menu is ignored for this part of
Tournament Poker. Copy that file (PTOURN.UIP) to a floppy disk
and mail it to United Innovations Plus.
NOTE: Each time you complete a tournament, the current
PTOURN.UIP file will be over-written. If you plan on playing
many tournaments be sure you save the PTOURN.UIP file to another
disk or directory before starting another tournament. The best
way would be to copy that file to a disk, making a note of your
final score. If you play another tournament and beat that
previous score, copy that file over the previous one. Do this
as often as you wish but don't miss the expiration date of the
entries.
2. Sign and date the Tournament Poker application that was sent
to you when you Registered Video Poker Slot. Return this
- 12 -
application to United Innovations Plus. NOTE: We must receive
the original copy of the application. If you wish to make a
copy of it for your records, be sure you mail the original to
us.
